Welcome

If you have landed on this page, then welcome and hello. As the blog title suggests, this is a shared space for navigating the murky avenue of ‘midlife’.   I created this blog, so that I can share with you, all the weird and wonderful things I have trialled, adopted and dabbled in, during this strange transitioning time of life. My life now, looks 100% opposite, to how it was 5-10 years ago. There was a significant period of change for me and in all honesty, my transforming is still evolving. I’m now in a place where I accept that life is a continuous journey and we all have a story to tell, so that we can share, learn and support each other. Let me get straight to it – my roles have changed, my body (internal and external) have changed, my outlook of life has changed, what I place importance on has changed, my relationships have changed, my relationship with myself has changed and my priorities have changed. Please use this platform to recognise that you are not alone and we...

Spiritual Journey in Midlife

Discovering My Spiritual Self

I've always considered myself a spiritual person, not in the sense of 'religious' but rather having a deeper sense of something 'bigger' than we can comprehend with our human logical brains.

It's only been since my children have grown and I'm no longer preoccupied with the day to day parenting responsibilities, that I've rekindled my curiosity of spirituality and what it means for me now.

I started meditating and practicing yoga around 6 years ago and I had some really profound experiences when meditating that triggered a feeling of there being something else, greater than what modern day science could capture. This led me to reading lots of books from renowned individuals that were trying to bridge the gap between science and spirituality. My favourite authors have been: Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, Dr Joe Dispenza, Michael Singer and Daniel J Seigel. All of whom, have written and discussed in great detail, concepts relating to the 'soul' and how we are much greater than our physical being. They use a lot of easy to digest science along with thought provoking concepts that really broaden the mindset, to facilitate a deeper understanding of what we are in relation to being an energetic force.

Alongside these amazing individuals that are breaking new ground in supporting better understanding of the self, I also became aware of a different kind of TV streaming platform that peaked my interest, called Gaia This streaming service has everything in one place that I personally align to, in my journey of re-discovering myself. There's hundreds of videos to watch and sessions to follow along to for yoga and meditation practices. Some of my deeper learning have come from excellent series that can be accessed on this platform, such as; Quantum Revolution which really helps to understand quantum physics in a simplified way and how this developing science is really pivotal in helping to bridge the gap between science and spirituality. What is quantum physics?

Equally, Inner Evolution by Bruce Lipton which is about Epigenetics , also breaks down this additional developing science, into easy to understand concepts, all about how the human mindset and how it can physically alter the physical body. This supports theories around the power of conscious thought (and where that comes from) and the impact on how we experience life.

These are just a few examples of such a wide range of mind expanding subjects that can be watched on this streaming site. I've been a member for several years now and never lost for new material to watch and learn from.

My journey with meditating has also greatly expanded from where I started. I now have a toolkit of different meditation practices that I can choose, depending on how I'm feeling and what I want to get out of my practice. Different methods that I have adopted include: using mala beads and chanting Sanskrit mantras, guided meditation (there's lots to choose from on you tube and Spotify), body scanning, silent meditation and sounds to induce different brain frequencies. I particularly like Kelly Howell's brain sync series, which can be purchased via her website, or downloaded on Spotify.

My journey continues and I am ever finding new and exciting things to help me better understand how spirituality fits into my everyday life and how these new and developing concepts are really helping to bridge gaps in the traditional sciences.

If you are embarking on your own spiritual journey, please do contact/comment and feel free to share you own experiences, along with any helpful suggestions.

Good luck on your journey of self growth

Acceptance in Midlife

Embracing Your Uniqueness Recognising and accepting who we are as unique individuals, will be a very different experience and journey, for us all. If 'at all', for some people! What I do know from personal experience, is that some of my own acceptances have come from intentional work that I've embarked on, along with some developed 'wisdom' that has come with age. Both of these routes for self-acceptance are an evolving journey that I continue to 'allow' to support my health and wellness. Recognising My Uniqueness For me, my first step in accepting 'me' and my life's journey so far, has been to stop and intentionally recognise myself. As an individual being, I sit within a broad and complex matrix of people, cultures, societies, beliefs and values. All of these things shape who we are and influence our identity and sense of belonging. At times these factors can directly challenge our 'natural' way of being and push the boundaries of what ...

Introverted

Personality Traits I've known that I am introverted for as long as I've known the word. What I've come to better understand as I've aged, is that there's so much misconception about this personality type. For some reason in our western culture, being introverted is somehow perceived as a negative trait. With a biased assumption of extroverts being more outgoing, sociable and ultimately 'successful'.  I would argue, as with most things, there's pro's and cons, to both these personality types. Equally, the perception of positive and negative traits will be highly dependent on our individual values. Additionally, many individuals may exhibit a mixture of these traits, so things aren't quite as clear cut as the 'label's' suggest. Introverted Personality Introverted and extroverted are more like a spectrum of traits. For me, its' very clear cut where my personality type lies. I would describe myself as a 'typical' introvert. I ...
